The Importance of a Great Wedding Photographer

When I was a little girl, I would dream of my future. I would imagine my career, dream of my future home and wonder how many children I would have. I even dreamed about what pets I would someday own. But of all the things I would envision, nothing captivated my mind more than what my wedding day would look like. My dress, my friends and family, the perfect day at the perfect venue, my handsome groom–all of these things were held like photographs in my mind. I knew even then that finding an excellent photographer was paramount.

An outstanding photographer will bring much more to your wedding day besides pictures. Those will be a small part of what you experience. They will be in and part of every moment of your day, but most of the time, you won’t even know they are there. You’ll be able to feel unscripted and unposed, and those moments make for some of the most memorable photographs. You’ll look back and remember the hilarious joke your maid of honor told you in the makeup room. You’ll tear up twenty years from now looking back at the pictures of you and your father seeing each other that moment before you walked down the aisle. A great photographer will capture these moments, and the memories they will invoke will be tangible, because you’ll be experiencing them like there was no one else in the room.

Another great thing about an excellent photographer is they will help keep you on schedule. Whether it's time to arrive, time to walk down the aisle, time to dance, or time to be sent off, a good photographer will know the timeline and keep you on it. These small details are often overlooked, but it is no fun to forget about special moments or have a photographer have to leave because their time is up. Having them on schedule keeps you on schedule, and that means you get pictures from every moment of your special day. Mentioning that brings me to another point:

A great photographer will capture all the moments you didn’t know you were missing. You’re only one person, after all, and even though it’s your special day, there will be many pictures of moments happening that you didn’t even know were happening. Or, maybe you knew they were happening, but now you get to see them closer, and at a different angle. Whether it's a special moment between you and your groom’s parents, or the bridesmaids getting tickled about something the flower girl did, your day will end up feeling more full and complete.

I love flipping through pictures of my grandparents and parents' wedding day. I love seeing the pictures of everyone when they were younger, of seeing how the styles have changed, and laughing with them while they recall moments that happened on that day many years ago. Most of those moments would have been completely forgotten if a picture didn’t exist to stir that memory up.

There are lots of things you’ll do to make your special day just what you want. From the flowers, to the wedding venue, the dress, the time of year and more, you’ll put careful thought and planning into every aspect of it. Don’t overlook the importance of an excellent photographer. We’ve been fortunate to work with some of Southwest Missouri’s best, but have especially enjoyed working with Christina Zapata. Her friendliness, attention to detail, and of course the photos themselves are absolutely amazing! If you’re in need of a wedding photographer for your special day, tell Christina I sent you her way!

What are some special memories you’re able to cherish from photos captured by a wedding photographer?
